To investigate the status of basic scientific research in Hainan province，the data of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) from 2015 to 2019 were obtained from open accessible resources in the internet, some datarelated to Hainan province were selected,curated,andanalyzed.The results show that between 2015 and 2019, scientific faculties in Hainan province have acquired fund from NSFC for scientific researchwith a total sum of 328.64 million RMB, including the general project of 116, region designated project of 560, youth designated project of 202, and national eminent youth designated project of 1.Faculty in Hainan province have achieved good records for NSFC fund, suggesting that the basic scientific research had gained good reasonable achievement which had fostered the application of NSFC. Infering with reference to the principle and flowchart of rating and funding for proposal for NSFC that the main reasons that the faculties in Hainan province fail in the rate and fund for key projects and some other weighted projects includethe basis of scientific research is not sound, the quality of talents is not so good as the other peers,and the innovative rate and capability of scientific output is not sufficient.
