This paper discusses the theoretical mechanism of resource-seeking, market-seeking, technology-seeking and strategic asset-seeking OFDI affecting the technical level of export products, and measures its impact effect by using the panel data of BRICS countries from 2000 to 2016.On the whole, OFDI of BRICS countries plays a significant role in promoting the technological level of export products, which is mainly achieved by obtaining resources of host countries, expanding overseas markets and promoting technological progress. Specifically, with the increase of the host country's resources, the improvement of technological progress and the accumulation of strategic assets, the marginal impact of OFDI on the export technological level will gradually decline. With the expansion of overseas markets, the marginal impact of OFDI on export technology level will gradually increase.
