The development of the advanced machine design methodology is concluded in this paper. The main three parts and the basic characteristic of the advanced design methodology are presented. The dependences of the advanced machine design methodology which include the system theory, similarity theory and ontology are discussed. The problems which may influence the further development of the advanced machine design methodology are carried out. Finally, the future trends of the advanced machine design methodology are outlined.
